WESTPORT, Conn. – After rainy weather caused the event to be postponed last week, the third annual Art About Town street party will take over Westport's Main Street from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Instead of cars, Main Street will be filled with hundreds of people. They’ll be live music, artists demonstrating their talents, a variety of street performers and, of course, food.
The Shiny Lapel Trio, which in December performed for a television audience of 30 million people during the opening of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football,” will be outside Bobby Q’s. Other performances will include a ukulele group known as The Fabuleles; local favorite Dylan O’Connor; the Westport/Weston Family Y Dance Company; the Neighborhood Studios Conservatory Dance Ensemble; Studio 44 Dancers; and the Music Theater of CT Junior Company, which will sing songs from their production of “Dr. Doolittle.”
Stilt-walkers and other street performers will make their way up and down Main Street for the entertainment of party-goers, and numerous artists will demonstrate their talent and explain their creative process.
The family-friendly event will also include face painting, a fire pit for marshmallow toasting, and an interactive art experience featuring local artist Sooo-z Mastropietro and educators from the Westport Arts Center.
There will also be plenty of food and drink available for purchase at outdoor, pop-up cafes along Main Street.
For the event, Main Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 2 p.m. The street will reopen to traffic at 9 p.m.
The street party is the official kick off to the Westport Downtown Merchant Association’s Art About Town, a three-week event during which hundreds of original works of art are displayed at downtown shops and restaurants.
Artwork featured at downtown businesses for Art About Town will be on display through June 16. For more information and a complete list of exhibitors and participating businesses, visit the Art About Town website .
