WESTON, Conn. - Donald Charles Stratz, Sr., of Weston, died March 17 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 83.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y. Oct. 4, 1928, he was the son of Fred Stratz and Claire Hens. Stratz served in the military as a tower controller for the U.S. Air Force from 1946-49. He attended the University of Buffalo, where he graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in industrial engineering.
Stratz married Ida Isabelle Machado Sep. 3, 1951 in Jamaica. Upon graduating college, he was hired by Mobile Oil Corporation. Stratz worked there for 35 years, retiring in the early 1990s.
In retirement, he kept busy with golf, following his favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills, going to church and various small part-time jobs.
He is survived by his wife, Ida of Weston; his sons, Marc (Sherri) Stratz, Peter (Terri) Stratz and Donald Stratz, Jr.; and three grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. March 30 in the Church of Notre Dame in Easton. Spear Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
