The Book Group of the Weston Newcomers and Neighbors Club hosted Westport's Frank Deford at its April 26 meeting.
Deford, a celebrated sports writer for Sports Illustrated, an NPR commentator, an HBO correspondent and an author, was the guest of the group reviewing his book, "Bliss Remembered."
The book, set in 1936 at the Berlin Olympics, is the story of Sydney Stringfellow, a swimmer at the Olympics. Sydney's daring persona fills the reader with suspense as her story unfolds. Deford captivated the group by sharing portions of his career in writing, publishing and radio broadcasting.
The Weston Newcomers and Neighbors book group meets again May 19. Prospective members may try two activities before signing up for a membership. Those interested in becoming a member or joining the book group may contact Anne McMahon at firstname.lastname@example.org .
