EASTON, Conn. – Ganim's Tree Farm doesn't just sell Christmas trees, it hands out saws so people can cut them down.

On Saturday, families walked across the farm searching for the perfect tree, and, when they found it, cut it down.

Ted Johnston, from Trumbull, cut a tree with his wife, son and star bull mastiff, Khufu , looking on. "It's the second time we've cut a tree here," he said. "Last year it was packed, so it's good we got here early."

George Ganim, who has owned the farm for 30 years, said he grows white, Norway and blue spruce trees on the farm. He also brings in Canadian Balsam from Canada that are sold pre-cut.

"People are drawn in to cut their own trees," he said. "It's a very popular principle."

Ganim said there are 5,000 trees on the farm. New ones are planted every spring and take seven years to mature.

Ganim's Tree Farm is located on 130 Center Road, Easton.
