The synagogue’s adult education committee launched its first community read with “A Guide for the Perplexed” by Dara Horn, who is set to visit the synagogue at 7:30 p.m. March 27 to lead a discussion on her book.
“I’m honored that your community has chosen my book as a way of continuing this conversation,” Horn said. “When you write a book, you think you've only written one book. But when others read it, you discover that everyone's reading a different book from the one you wrote -- which is a wonderful thing, because they're often reading a better book than the one you wrote."
The novel explores technology and memory, about storytelling and history, and about the ways people use the past to shape the future.
“The genizah project-- both the real and the fictitious-- is about collective memory, about the stories that we tell ourselves about how we have become who we are,” Horn said.
