Catch a ride on a horse-drawn carriage, enjoy live Christmas caroling and catch up with Santa without stepping foot outside of Westport: From noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, downtown Westport will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland thanks to the Westport Downtown Merchants Association .
During this holiday event, which will also be held Dec. 18 and Dec. 19, visitors to the downtown area will be treated to free horse-drawn carriage rides, caroling and a visit from Santa himself. Hot cocoa and hot cider will also be available to keep visitors warm.
"This is something the Downtown Merchants Association does every year to try to heighten the holiday mood," said Lee De Monico, public relations director for the association. "They really try to make things festive. You can't beat it."
If it's Santa you're interested in seeing, look for him on Main Street. Carolers can also be found along Main Street, filling the air with holiday cheer. This year's carolers include the Sedgwick Family Singers, the Staples High School Orphenians and the Weston High School Carolers.
Hot cocoa will be sold in front of Bobby Q's, and hot cider lovers can buy a cup in front of Oscar's Deli. Proceeds from hot chocolate sales will benefit Builders Beyond Borders . Hot cider sales will benefit Staples Teen Awareness Group (TAG), Toquet Hall , Staples Club Green and the Service League of Boys (SLOBs).
And if you're looking to take a horse-drawn carriage ride, the pickup area will be in front of Vineyard Vines. Wreaths and other holiday items will be sold in the mini-park at the northwest corner of the Post Road and Main Street, across from Soleil Toile.
