Christine Ebersole to Perform at Ridgefield Playhouse

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. - Two-time Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole will be making a stop at Ridgefield Playhouse on her way to Las Vegas with her cabaret show, “Age Before Beauty.”

Ebersole, who is known for her performances on the stage and screen, said she likes cabaret because of the special relationship with her audience and the intimate setting of theaters like the Ridgefield Playhouse.

“I love to get up and sing songs and tell stories,” she explained. Ebersole's new show, which just finished a sellout performance in New York City at the Cafe Carlyle, includes a number of songs from "Grey Gardens," the play which earned her a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical. She said the show will also include renditions of "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead," "When the World was Young," "Life is Just A Bowl of Cherries," and "Young At Heart," to name a few.

Although a resident of Maplewood, N.J., Ebersole is no stranger to Connecticut. Just last year she finished filming "The Big Wedding" in Fairfield County with a star-studded cast including Robert DeNiro. It will be released in theaters in April 2013.

Ebersole also has a number of other projects in the works at the moment, including "Wolf of Wall Street," a movie directed by Martin Scorsese. “I play Leo DiCaprio’s mother," she said. She added that the TBS series "Sullivan and Son" was picked up for a second season, so she will be headed to California soon to resume her role as Carol as well.

When asked about the travel, Ebersole said her schedule is actually more flexible than when she was on Broadway for the better part of ten years. The mother of three teenagers, she said she is able to perform and come home again.

Ebersole added that she is grateful to her husband, Bill Moloney, for making her theater career possible. She lists "Grey Gardens" and "Dinner at 8," her two Tony-winning performances, as her two favorite shows.

“They were great shows and great parts. Great directors and great companies.”

When asked what she wanted to tell the Ridgefield audience, Ebsersole playfully said, “Buckle up and enjoy the ride.”
