WESTPORT, Conn. Dont pack up your Halloween costumes just yet. After town officials recommended trick-or-treating be postponed because of post-noreaster safety concerns, Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff is urging residents to welcome trick-or-treaters again this weekend.
Many people followed our recommendation for which we thank them; many did not . For the sake of those who did, I ask that Westporters welcome costumed visitors on Saturday, Joseloff said in a statement. The storm caused enough disruption, and if we can make some disappointed youngsters happy, we should collectively go that extra step.
The towns recommendation to postpone trick-or-treating, Joseloff said, was made with the best of intentions.
We always err on the side of caution, he said. Given the pace of cleanup and restoration efforts on Monday, we made the recommendation to postpone until Saturday purely for safety reasons.
