Fay, who also is an international speaking coach, wrote her new book “Nail It” to help people overcome their fear of public speaking as well as to develop and deliver compelling presentations.

“Nervous speakers make the mistake of thinking the audience is focusing on them,” said Fay. “Audiences don’t care about the presenter. They only care about themselves. ‘Nail it’ takes the reader through audience assessment and why it’s a presenter’s most important and necessary focus. With this in mind, the book explains how to create a message that is audience centered, with special attention given to using language the audience can understand.

“Too many presenters speak in their industry’s jargon. They think they’re impressing their audience. But in reality, they’re only making the audience feel stupid.”

The book contains do’s and don’ts for creating visuals, as well as guidelines for presenting in teams, and handling questions. Chapters focus on topics such as fear, creating elevator speeches, and developing interview skills.

“My goal for the book is to give each and every person who reads it the tools to be a better, more confident, compelling speaker,” Fay said. “I want them to walk out of their next presentation with the elated ‘nailed it’ feeling.” Fay also is president and founder of Bespeak Presentation Solutions.

Fay will contribute 100 percent of the profits from her book sales that evening to Pink Aid, an organization that supports women with breast cancer, and Bel Mondo Westport will contribute 15 percent of sales to Pink Aid as well.
