WESTPORT, Conn. – Downtown Westport will once again be transformed into a living art gallery for the third-annual Art About Town, a three-week art event organized by the Westport Downtown Merchants Association.
During the event, original works of art will be on display—and for sale—at downtown shops and restaurants. To kick off the event, Main Street will be closed to traffic next Thursday night and transformed into a giant street party featuring live music, interactive art demonstrations, street performances and food.
Live musical performances will include the Shiny Lapel Trio outside Bobby Q’s. In December, the group performed for approximately 30 million people during the opening of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”
Other performances will include a ukulele group known as The Fabuleles; local favorite Dylan O’Connor; the Westport/Weston Family Y Dance Company; the Neighborhood Studios Conservatory Dance Ensemble; Studio 44 Dancers; and the Music Theater of CT Junior Company, which will sing songs from their production of “Dr. Doolittle.”
Stilt-walkers and street performers will make their way up and down Main Street, dazzling party-goers, and numerous artists will demonstrate their talent and explain their creative process.
The family-friendly event will also include face painting, a fire pit for marshmallow toasting, and an interactive art experience featuring local artist Sooo-z Mastropietro and educators from the Westport Arts Center.
There will also be plenty of food and drink available for purchase at outdoor, pop-up cafes along Main Street.
The Art About Town opening night street party is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. In case of rain, the event will be held on May 30.
Artwork featured at downtown businesses for Art About Town will be on display through June 16. For more information and a complete list of exhibitors and participating businesses, visit the Downtown Merchants Association website .
