WESTPORT, Conn. -- The merchandise at a baby and children’s boutique that opened last year in Westport is as colorful as its name.
Pink Lemon Blue Lime, which opened at 180 Post Road E. in June 2016, stocks clothes for babies, boys and girls, as well as gifts, toys and gift baskets.

What makes the store unique, according to store owner Evelina Rogers, is its “Boho Prep” line of fashions.
“It’s a little bit of Connecticut preppy style and a little bit of urban flair and West Coast style,’’ Rogers said. “We try to keep it fun and a little bit casual, while also offering traditional styles.”
“Boho,” Rogers said, is a casual style that is popular in California. “It’s flowy fabrics, pom-poms, more whimsical, more colors, light, cheery and fresh. We try to stick to bright fabrics and happy looking.”
The store offers brands such as Billieblush, Pink Chicken, Rylee and Cru, and more. The styles, the fabrics, the selection and the look are more creative and colorful than standard baby and children’s apparel.
“There has always been Carter, Gap and stores like that,’’ Rogers said. “What we offer is something a little different. We’re a little higher price point. But you’ll see the same clothes in every Gap. Our brands are totally unique.”
The challenge, Rogers says, is keeping the merchandise unique. “We started using ‘Boho Prep’ a few years ago, and that’s the image we want to have,’’ she said.
"You can get distracted at these trade shows and bring in a ton of different styles. It’s easy to lose focus, but we’re always looking for unique items that people can’t find at any other store in Fairfield County.”
Pink Lemon Blue Lime is also has a big gifting business, Rogers said, and customers can purchase items through its website.
Rogers opened her first store in Darien in 2013 , then moved to the new location in Westport last year. Its Post Road location -- next to Destination Maternity -- offers more visibility and puts her squarely in the center of a community that gravitates toward the fashions she offers
“A lot of our customers from Darien are now coming to Westport to shop,’’ Rogers said. “I love being in a shopping area. We’re surrounded by so many different types of stores and restaurants. If people are heading downtown, they’ll pop in. We have off-street parking. Once moms find out we’re here, they’ll come to shop.”
Rogers said shoppers will see neon colors, trims, tassels and pom-poms on the new lines of spring clothing. “T-shirts that have sayings are also quite popular, especially with so many people interested in supporting women’s causes these days,’’ Rogers said. “People like words on their T-shirts.”
Rogers has also lined up an array of upcoming events, including trunk shows, art classes, a Mother’s Day event and a fashion camp.
It’s all part of the creativity that is perhaps best exemplified in the store’s name. Her daughter, Emilia, helped her come up with it, along with a friend who is also in retail.
“I was thinking of things that I wanted to feel fresh and bright,’’ Rogers said. “I thought of lemons, because that makes me think of fresh, clean, bright. My daughter said 'What if there were Pink Lemons?' That sounds sweet, but that sounds like a girl's store. My friend came up with Blue Lime. We talked about it and came to that conclusion. People call us Pink Lemon for short.”
Rogers said shoppers enjoy the merchandise at the store, but they also enjoy the experience, staff and culture of Pink Lemon Blue Lime.
“It’s a nice positive feel,’’ she said. “People get great customer service. We enjoy being in the store and talking to everybody. We also have a kids area for children to play in so moms can shop in peace. People just enjoy shopping here.”
