The 38th annual event is a national “fine craft show” featuring some of the country’s leading contemporary craft artists, according to a press release. The show "has been delighting art enthusiasts and discerning shoppers for 38 years with a display of contemporary fine craft from more than 170 artists and craftspeople from across the country," according to the press release. The event is Nov. 9-10 and is set to feature a new small pop-up marketplace.
The pop-up marketplace promises to feature artists "hand-selected by the Westport Young Woman’s League who will provide a unique view of the local talent and will include some fun, budget-friendly items great for the holiday season," according to the release.
"We have added a new pop-up marketplace offering hand-crafted items from local artists at affordable prices that we hope will attract a younger audience," said Meg Himes, chair of this year's CraftWestport, in the release.
The contemporary craft artists that will be featured during the weekend include the following artists, according to a press release:
- Laura Baring-Gould’s large scale, permanent installations are spotted throughout Boston. She will be showing small-scale, lower-priced versions of her unique bronze sculptures.
- Danielle Gori-Montanelli’s vibrantly colored felt jewelry has been shown in the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City and The Textile Museum in her hometown of Washington, D.C.
- Connecticut artist and two-time Niche Award finalist Merrie Buchsbaum will be featured in the soon-to-be-released film American Made Movie with her whimsical, garden inspired polymer clay pens.
- Liza Norman’s playful use of color, texture and pattern creates clothing and accessories fit for teenagers and mothers. Her goal is to “create clothes that make people happy”.
CraftWestport will be at Staples High School on North Avenue in Westport. General admission is $10, $9 for seniors and children younger than 12 are free. For more information, residents can visit the CraftWestport website.
