Westport Teen Designs Club With Goal Of Helping Others

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Emerson Kobak has always loved fashion. The 17-year-old rising senior at Staples High School said ever since she was very young, she would always be sketching, which eventually turned into sewing.

Now, not only does the Westport student have her own fashion brand where she does custom orders (check out Emerson Isa Designs), but she's started a fashion club at school that's all about giving back.

Last year -- the club's first -- the student-lead Fashion For A Cause raised over $8,000 for Dress For Success. This year, their fundraiser will raise money for Stomp Out Bullying, an organization which focuses on reducing and preventing bullying as well as educating against homophobia, racism and hatred.

Kobak said it was always a part of her vision that her new club - she's two years in -- would incorporate a charity component. "It allows us to put meaning into what we do," she said.

The event is set for Sunday, Sept. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Toquet Hall in Westport. Folks can expect a fashion show featuring two collections created by members of the club, free food and drinks and live music, most likely from a student band. Go HERE for ticket information.

In other news, the club is expanding to Darien High School as of the school year thanks to Meaghan Dempsey, an incoming junior who reached out to Kobak in the hopes of replicating Kobak's mission in another Fairfield County town.
