WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Country Playhouse is hosting a one night only script in hand play-reading of "Mr. Roberts" Monday to commemorate Veterans Day.
The "comedic and moving story of men at war" from Thomas Heggen and Joshua Logan begins at 7 p.m. at the playhouse, according to a press release.
The playhouse will also distribute yellow ribbons to audience members "as an emblem of veteran remembrance," according to the release.
“I can’t think of a better play to present for our Veterans Day Script in Hand,” said director Anne Keefe in the press release. “This play has everything - drama, comedy, and wonderful parts for a great group of actors. I’m hoping to bring back a lot of our Playhouse favorites for this beautiful play.”
“Mr. Roberts” is a "rowdy, realistic saga of a group of American sailors aboard the Navy cargo vessel Reluctant in the Pacific towards the end of World War II," according to the press release.
“Crossing Delancey,” a "heart-felt, romantic comedy by Susan Sandler," will be read at 7 p.m., Dec. 9.
"Isabel is a modern young woman who lives alone and works in a book store," representatives wrote in the release. "When she is not pining after a handsome author, she is visiting her grandmother in Manhattan’s Lower East Side."
“While trolling the shelves of the library recently in search of just the right play for the last reading of the year, I happened upon this script (for "Crossing Delancey"),” said Keefe in the release. “I was familiar with the film, but I’m even more charmed by the play, especially as the granddaughter of immigrants. I’m pretty sure our audience will be as well.”
Tickets to each Script in Hand play-reading are $15.
