WESTPORT, Conn. – Author Dawn Tripp will discuss her new novel, “Georgia: A Novel of Georgia O'Keeffe,” on Tuesday, March 1 at noon in the Westport Library’s McManus Room.
Books will be available for purchase and signing at the program, which is free and open to the public.
In 1916, O’Keeffe was a young, unknown art teacher when she traveled to New York to meet Alfred Stieglitz, the famed photographer and art dealer who discovered O’Keeffe’s work and exhibited it in his gallery. Their connection was instantaneous. O’Keeffe was drawn into Stieglitz’s sophisticated world, becoming his mistress, protégé and muse.
Their attraction deepened into an intense relationship and his photographs of her, both clothed and nude, created a sensation. Yet as her own creative force developed, O’Keeffe began to push back against what critics and others were saying about her and her art.
Winner of the Massachusetts Book Award for fiction, Tripp is the author of the novels “Moon Tide,” “The Season of Open Water” and “Game of Secrets,” a Boston Globe bestseller. Her essays have appeared in The Virginia Quarterly Review, The Believer, The Rumpus, Psychology Today and NPR.
The Westport Public Library is located at 20 Jesup Road.
