WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Arts Center is seeking unique and imaginative toy designs created by children ages 5 through 12 for its third annual Toy Makers Competition.

Children can submit up to three concepts for interactive toys, action figures, games or their own original creations. Melissa and Doug Bernstein, founders of Melissa & Doug, will select finalists from the submissions.

The competition will culminate at Family Art Day on March 9 when finalists from three age groups (ages 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12) will be chosen to present their toy designs to a panel of judges.

Each toy designer will describe their inspiration, how their toy works and why it will be a successful toy, after which the judges will select the winners. Participants at Family Art Day will also vote for their favorite design.

First place winners will receive a private tour of the Melissa & Doug toy factory in Wilton, a gift certificate to Max’s Art Supplies and a scholarship to a Westport Arts Center Summer Camp of their choice.

Second and third place winners will receive a Melissa & Doug Toy Gift Basket, and the Audience Choice Award Winner will receive a gift certificate to Shake Shack.

All entries are due by Feb. 10. For more information on submitting, click here.

Family Art Day will be held on March 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave. Children and their families are invited to participate in workshops where they can make toy inspired projects.

Tickets to Family Art Day are $10 per child and free for adults and children under 2.

For more information contact the Westport Arts Center at 203-222-7070 or visit the website. The Westport Arts Center gallery is open seven days a week, Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
