WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Westport Arts Center will host two exhibitions to celebrate the first year of WAC Gives Back.

The two exhibitions are Abstract Notes, gouache paintings by cancer patients; and Nurturing Creativity, photographs of art workshops with military veterans at Homes For The Brave.

Abstract Notes is on display at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven and Nurturing Creativity is on view at the Westport Arts Center. WAC Gives Back is Westport Arts Center’s therapeutic arts program.

The goal of WAC Gives Back is to foster therapeutic arts experiences in a safe and healing environment.

"Grounded in the research that art has a positive impact on the physical, emotional and mental well being of children and adults, it was designed to deliver healing arts experiences to underserved populations, such as cancer patients, military veterans, children with special needs, and the elderly," representatives said.

WAC Gives Back will be highlighted at a brunch at the Westport Arts Center at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7.

"This anniversary celebration also serves as a great opportunity for patrons to see first hand the amazing work that has been completed through WAC Gives Back," representatives said. "The celebration is being hosted as part of Fairfield County Giving Day, an initiative to increase philanthropy in Fairfield County through a targeted, 24-hour period of online giving."
