WESTPORT, Conn. — More than 50 businesses will open their doors Sept. 9 for the sixth annual Slice of Saugatuck Festival, a day of music, munchies and a maker faire along the streets of this bustling neighborhood.

The day runs from 2 to 5 p.m. and the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce expects about 2,000 people will be going door to door, sampling the restaurants, merchants and activities along the way.

“I love how this event has grown over the years,” said Chamber Executive Director Matthew Mandell. “Everyone embraces it, from the merchants and restaurateurs right down to the residents who come out to see what’s up.”

This year brings 31 food tastings at restaurants such as Bistro du Soleil, Kawa Ni, Parker Mansion, Tarry Lodge, Viva Zapata, The Whelk and Match Burger Lobster.

Children can enjoy an obstacle course, bouncy houses, a giant slide and other activities.

There will be music at six different venues, featuring Outside Chance, Mill River Band, Silver Steel, Jon Saxon Band, Suzanne Sheridan and the School of Rock. There will also be dance and Tai Kwan Do demonstrations.

Remarkable Steam will present a maker faire.

The event features two beer gardens on Bridge Square and Railroad Place and many restaurants will be offering specialty drinks.

All proceeds from the event go to Gillespie Center’s food pantry. Last year, the chamber was able to donate $4,500 to the cause.

“The Slice of Saugatuck is a unique event that helps fill our pantry and gives the community a great day,” said Jeff Weiser, executive director of Homes With Hope.

Tickets are $15 for adults, with a two-for-$25 option. Children under 13 get in for $5. Tickets go on sale on site only at 1:50 p.m.

The rain date is Sept. 16.
