Summer Means Outdoor Dining in Westport

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Al fresco dining is part of what makes a superlative summer season so sublime. And our area offers plenty of outdoor spots to grab a quick bite or enjoy a leisurely meal. From street side to seaside, let this list be your guide to discovering some of the best exterior eats Fairfield County has to offer.

The Spotted Horse – Westport’s newest oasis for outdoor dining, The Spotted Horse has quickly galloped its way into the hearts, minds and appetites of area diners. A reliable menu coupled with ample outdoor tables along Church Lane are sure to make this a premier dining destination this summer. The Spotted Horse is located at 26 Church Lane in Westport.

Cappricio Café – This Stamford café practically defines street side dining with a European twist. The consistent, casual café menu is peppered with Italian standards, and the ample outdoor space offers a shaded oasis from the summertime sun. Cappricio is located at 189 Bedford St. in Stamford.

Blue Lemon – The secluded patio, ringed with baskets of hanging flowers, offers the perfect backdrop for Chef Bryan Malcarney’s new American menu. The lattice-topped fence allows the imaginative diner to envision this exterior enclave is located just about anywhere. Blue Lemon is located at 15 Myrtle Ave. in Sconset Square in Westport.

l’escale – This fine French restaurant is located on Greenwich Harbor and boasts some of the best outdoor views in Fairfield County. Chef Frederic Kieffer, the restaurant’s original chef, has recently returned to this “port of call” (the English translation of l’escale) and revamped the menu to highlight his French roots, with a nod to locally sourced ingredients. l’escale is located at 500 Steamboat Rd. in Greenwich.

Station Eats – If you’re looking for a casual, outdoor spot for a weekday lunch or easy family dinner, Station Eats has you covered. The patio is dotted with colorful picnic tables, and the menu is packed with creative burger options created with organic, sustainably raised ingredients. And don’t miss the live music line-ups on weekends, which pair perfectly with the microbrews and “high octane” milkshakes for grown-ups. Station Eats is located at 60 Atlantic St. across from the Palace Theater in Stamford.

Café Lola – Regular readers know that this bohemian style French café regularly tops my restaurant lists. Tucked away in downtown Fairfield, enjoying a meal Café Lola is as close to a trip to Montmartre as you will get without experiencing jet lag. The charming patio will have you whispering “ooh la la” as you settle in for a leisurely, romantic brunch. Café Lola is located at 57 Unquowa Rd. in Fairfield.
