Schneerson Center Plans For Menorah Lightings In Weston, Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. --  The Schneerson Center for Jewish Life, CT in Westport will host several area Menorah lightings for the festival of Hanukkah, which begins on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 24, and ends on Sunday, Jan 1.

The Schneerson Center for Jewish Life, CT is hosting special menorah-lighting ceremonies in Westport, Weston, Wilton and Norwalk.

The public is invited to these lightings, which will feature live holiday music, doughnuts, dreidels and other exciting holiday giveaways. These family-friendly events are geared to all ages.

Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of lights. It celebrates the victory of the Maccabees over the Greek Syrian oppressors in the land of Israel and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem with the lighting of the Menorah.

It is celebrated for eight consecutive days, with the lighting of one candle the first night and increasing each night with an additional light until all eight are lit.

The following is a listing of Menorah lighting events scheduled:

Weston Community Menorah Lighting Celebration: Monday, Dec. 26, at 4:45 p.m. The event is a giant outdoor Menorah Lighting at the Weston Town Center, 190 Weston Road, Weston.  

Wilton Community Menorah Lighting Celebration; Monday, Dec. 26, at 6 p.m. The event is a giant outdoor Menorah Lighting at the Wilton Town Green.

Stew Leonard’s: Norwalk's Biggest Menorah Lighting: Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 5 p.m. Event is co-sponsored by Beth Israel and Stew Leonard’s. It will be held at Stew Leonard's on Route 1/Post Road, Norwalk. The lighting ceremony will be led by Rabbi Yehoshua Hecht of Beth Israel and Rabbi Levi Stone of the Schneerson Center. 

Westport Community Menorah Lighting Celebration: Tuesday, Dec.  27, at 6 p.m. Light the original Westport Menorah at Compo Acres Shopping Center at 400 Post Road E., Westport.

All of the Menorah lightings for the festival of Hanukkah will include live music, chocolate gelt and dreidels, and are perfect for the whole family. All of the events are free and open to all.
