With school vacation just weeks away, you might have your sights set on a warm weather escape. Whether your trip is all-inclusive, family-friendly, or a grown up getaway for two, chances are youll need a wardrobe update.
Resort wear for 2012 is a mix of beachy, breezy styles with some bold, dramatic evening looks thrown in to heat up Caribbean nights.
Were definitely seeing a lot of color this year, says Maria Casabianca, owner of Westport's Soma Boutique , and co-owner of Casa Ryan, a one-stop shop for home, hair and what to wear. Last year, we saw a lot of neutrals, so brights are really exciting this year.
Were also seeing a lot flowy, drapey looks, Casabianca says. Skinny jeans in bold colors were big for fall. Now were seeing them in pastels, which work perfectly for a resort vacation, she says.
So, what should be in your suitcase?
You definitely need a bright, flowy top, Casabianca says. You can pair it with your white jeans, or pastel jeanseven shorts. But it should have color and movement.
Additionally, Casabianca says you cant underestimate the power of a great dress. The high-low silhouette is hot right now, she says. The look is an uneven hemline that is higher in the front than it is in the back. For dresses, you can go with a high-low, or a halter, even a one shoulder. But you should definitely pack a fabulous dress.
For head-to-toe style, Casabianca says you should add a shoe with a little bling.
Something of interest on the shoe is really important, she says. Beading, studs, shells, even python print, all of these assets work for flip flops, wedges and heels.
