WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport native and Pulitizer Prize-winning photographer Lynsey Addario is set for an exhibition at the Westport Arts Center in January.

The exhibit, “On the Wire: Veiled Rebellion,” focuses on the effects of war in countries such as Afghanistan, Sudan and Libya. Addario is set to speak about her work from 3 to 5 p.m., Jan. 25, at the Arts Center. The opening reception for the exhibition is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 24.

"She documents the issues and events on the periphery of war, capturing the emotions as a way to draw in the viewer," representatives said. "This exquisite exhibition will showcase 34 color photographs by Ms. Addario, depicting the plight of women in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Throughout her numerous visits, Ms. Addario has trained a close eye through her lens on women’s lives in all areas of Afghan society: culture, politics, education, employment, and domestic life. 'Veiled Rebellion' was originally published in National Geographic in December 2010."

Addario said she was thankful to be able to display her work in Westport.

“I graduated from Staples High School in 1991, and since then, my travels and work as a photojournalist have taken me to over 60 countries,” said Addario. “It is infinitely gratifying to be able to show this body of work on women in Afghanistan at the Westport Arts Center, after having originally exhibited it at The Nobel Peace Center in Oslo [Norway].”
