Prince Harry Kicks Off Trip To America, Featuring A Stop In Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. -- Fans of the British royal family fans can start counting down the days until Prince Harry arrives in Greenwich.

Harry, third in line to the throne in the United Kingdom, kicks off an official weeklong tour of the United States on Thursday in Washington, D.C. He will wrap up the trip to the States by playing in a charity polo match in Greenwich on Wednesday, May 15, according to his agenda.

He will compete in the fourth Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup at the Greenwich Polo Club. Proceeds from the event go to Prince Harry's charity Sentebale, which raises money for children affected by AIDS/HIV and poverty in the African nation of Lesotho.

The Greenwich event is invite-only and is closed to the public.

The prince's tour will be charity- and nonprofit-minded, with visits and fundraisers to several different organizations.

Harry will speak at a dinner in Washington, D.C., on Thursday to mark the HALO trust's 25th anniversary, which fights to remove landmines from former war zones, a cause of his late mother, Princess Diana. The next day he will visit Arlington National Cemetery and Walter Reed Medical Center, a rehabilitation center for wounded veterans.

After Washington, Prince Harry heads to Colorado Springs for two days to watch the opening ceremonies of the Wounded Warrior Games.

The only event open to public on Harry's tour will be Sunday, when he attends the cycling competition at the Wounded Warrior Games at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Prince Harry returns to the East Coast on Tuesday to tour Mantoloking and Seaside Heights, N.J., two of the hardest-hit towns by Superstorm Sandy. He will also play the part of tourist later Tuesday, taking a double-decker bus tour of New York City.
