Political Memorabilia Collection Comes To Westport Library

WESTPORT, Conn. -- For Westport's Larry Aasen, it started when he was 10 and his father gave him a pencil with an eraser shaped like the head of unsuccessful 1928 presidential candidate Al Smith. Aasen's political campaign memorabilia has grown quite a bit since then.

This JFK poster will be among the memorabilia in a new exhibition of political campaign materials at Westport Library.

Now, a selected group of more than 2,000 political buttons and posters he's collected over the years will be on display at the Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road. The display, titled "Remember to Vote on November 8," starts Wednesday in the lower-level Riverwalk Display Case, and is open through Election Day.

An opening reception is planned for 6-7 p.m. on Sept. 29 in the library's McManus Room. The reception is free and open to the public.
