National Babe Ruth Day is April 27 in honor of George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr.
Ruth, who's known mostly for his time with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, retired as baseball's all-time home run king with 714 home runs before ultimately being surpassed by Hank Aaron and later Barry Bonds.
He became one of the first five players elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
The Maryland native died on Aug. 16, 1948 at the age of 53.
