The boxing-focused gym officially opened its doors last month, drawing a crowd of fitness buff looking to get serious with their workouts and others just wanting to break a quick sweat.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, as he expressed his enthusiasm for the gym and the city's fledgling PAL Boxing program.

Next Generation's owners Jennifer Mogeluzo and Bruce Ceja have partnered with the Norwalk Police Department in an effort to help city youths discover the benefits of boxing. Also in attendance were several members of the Connecticut Oilers, Norwalk's EHL hockey club, which plays at the SoNo Ice House and trains at Next Generation's facilities for their off-ice workouts.

Along with trainers and staff, guests were able to meet and greet an array of local companies, including the clothing line Athleta and South Norwalk juice bar, The Stand. Guests worked up a sweat in the morning's boot camp, which focused on high intensity machine work before following with a HIIT, or High Intensity Integral Training that was led by Mongeluzo. To finish the day, Ceja hosted a cardio boxing class that focused on burning fat and increasing metabolism.

For those seeking to improve core strength and flexibility, Next Generation also offers pilates classes led by Mogeluzo who owns the gyms sister program at the Pilates Center just down the road.

At the core of Next Generation's mission is boxing, underscored in the 4,000-square-foot gym's regulation-size boxing ring. Ceja has worked with boxers across Fairfield County in the facilities and offers private training and in-depth classes for those serious about the sport.

The whole Next Generation team has challenged Norwalkers to give all they have and “come to Next Generation Fitness, where athletes are built.”
