New Year, New Baby: Greenwich Hospital Welcomes First Baby Of 2017

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2017 early Sunday — and it's a girl!

Jayleen made her debut at 3:53 a.m. Jan. 1, weighing in at 6 pounds and 14 ounces. She was 19 inches long.

Parents Zayra Ramos and Ivan Valdez of West Haven are thrilled with the new addition to their family. Jayleen joins siblings Xiara, 10; Karena, 9; Angel 4; and Jordan, 3.

The former Greenwich residents recently moved to West Haven. They were traveling to Greenwich for a family party when Zayra started having contractions. They decided to skip the party and headed to Greenwich Hospital, where Zayra had planned to have her baby all along.

“This is a great way to start the New Year,” said Valdez.
