Have you ever spent a boatload of money on a non-returnable piece of furniture or designer outfit and regretted it the minute you got home? You're not alone, and the good news is that if you act fast you might be able to sell your designer cast-offs and buy something you like better.
Robin O'Neil, owner of Robin's Nest Design and the Connecticut agent for Leftover Luxuries, is accepting consignments right now for a sale of luxury items, which will take place in Westport, Conn. from June 17 to 26. Leftover Luxuries was started in 2009 by Wendi Smith, an interior designer in Virginia. O'Neil describes its genesis: "Wendi wanted to find a way for her clients to get rid of things they no longer wanted in order to make room for new items." Leftover Luxuries now runs sales all over the U.S. The most recent sale was in New Rochelle in the fall of 2010.
Robin stumbled on a Leftover Luxuries event by accident last year and was fascinated by the concept. "It combined my previous career as an event planner with my new career in interior design," she says. Part auction and part tag sale, each event is held in rented space and widely advertised to attract shoppers. Sales include a mix of home furniture, decorative accessories and designer clothing, handbags and shoes. Consignors name their price and walk away with 60 percent of the sale.
The Westport sale will be at the Compo Acres Shopping Center at 374 Post Road East. Consignments are pouring in from as far away as Virginia.
