Mayer, 39, gave the shout-out to his hometown during a lengthy interview promoting his new album, “The Search For Everything,” which is coming out next month. The remarks were published online as part of the outtakes that didn't fit in the main story.

In remarks about settling down — his brother just had a baby — he made this statement about Fairfield, where he grew up:

“I’m still always going to be a kid from Fairfield, Conn. They don’t make rock stars in Fairfield, Conn. They don’t. They make good people who get a job, get married, they watch TV together, they start a life together and make other good people.”
