Fleishers Craft Butchery has designed the boxes, each of which includes four, 6-ounce or 8-ounce burger patties in selected blends of new dry-aged beef, classic pasture-raised grass-fed beef, beef and bacon or lamb.

The boxes, which can be built in-store or made to order for someone calling ahead, include “hand-formed, bistro-style patties” that should be cooked the day of purchase.

Fleishers aims to be a “one-stop burger shop this summer” and is set to offer new local items including buns, greens and a variety of cheeses and condiments.

The gourmet shop also plans to organize several events where burgers will be served.

On National Hamburger Day, the Westport and Greenwich locations will be starting the celebrations at 3 p.m. The Westport restaurant will be venturing to Compo Beach to hand out free burger boxes and grill some burgers. In Greenwich, the first 25 customers will receive a complimentary burger box of four patties.

Bryan Mayer, Fleishers’ director of butchery education, offered several tips for the burger lover this season.

  • Cast iron is key. We prefer to grill on a cast iron skillet, keeping the juices and the fat of the burger from dripping through the grill. Put your cast iron pan on top of the grill and get it nice and hot before you grill.
  • To flip or not to flip? Resist the temptation to flip, flip, flip. Let the patty cook fully on one side before turning to the other side.
  • It’s all about ingredients (always). No matter what you’re cooking, the better the ingredients the better the result. In addition to top-quality meat, make a restaurant-quality burger by sourcing the best cheese, condiments and buns.

Fleishers is a Brooklyn-based craft butcher widely recognized as a provider of delicious, locally-sourced and ethically-raised meats with shops in New York and Connecticut.

Connecticut locations include the Greenwich shop at 160 E. Putnam Ave. in Cos Cob and the Westport shop at 580 Riverside Ave., Westport.
