Lindsay Cain grew up surrounded by style. She is the founder and designer of Femmegems , a jewelry retailer created for, as she describes it, modern women who keep an eye on the trends but refuse to be enslaved by them.
Her shop, Femmegems, houses many of Cains unique designs in semi-precious stones. I love the feel of gorgeous jade or turquoise on your skin, she says of her pieces.
My mom was the kind of woman, explains Cain, Who would toss a bright orange muffler around my neck to make my school uniform more interesting. In the ensuing years, Cain adopted her mothers flair for accessorizing and turned it into a stylish business with retail locations in New York City and Greenwich, Conn. And everyone from The New York Times to Women's Wear Daily is taking notice.
In its current incarnation, Femmegems is more than a jewelry store. Cain also hosts jewelry designing events that incorporate the jewelry wearer into the design process. Ladies can schedule parties for any occasionbridal and baby showers, engagement parties and birthdays. Party guests get to be part of the design process, selecting design materials and assembling pieces by hand with help from the Femmegems design experts.
But Cain doesn't stop with the grow-ups. Her latest vision, Little Sparklers, gets girls ages 7-14 involved. The concept is the same, but the participants are younger.
Femmegems also offers jewelry redesign services to deconstruct and reinvent your old or outdated pieces and give them new life.
And giving a womans look new life is what Cain loves the most. Now I realize that [my mother] taught me how special one accentbe it a scarf or a fantastic piece of jewelrycan make a whole outfit express personality and style.
Femmegems is located at 89 Greenwich Ave. in Greenwich, Conn., and Little Sparklers is located nearby at 85 Greenwich Ave. Little Sparklers is offerind drop-in design hours for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
