The race supports Easton’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. Mark Pastor, the D.A.R.E. director and an Easton police officer, started the race in 1999 along with his wife, Denise. The race has been one of the most popular early spring races for runners anxious to hit their competitive stride.
Last year, 250 runners finished the 5k course. Travis Wooten won the race 17:49, while Mirane Forte of Easton was the first woman in 20:56. Many of the runners are Easton residents, and some D.A.R.E. graduates also compete.
The race is the featured event, but there is also a raffle, post race refreshments and awards for age groups and top runners from Easton. The fun atmosphere from the race derives from the background of Mark Pastor, a one-time clown who also is a part-time disc jockey.
