WESTPORT, Conn. – See the world through the eyes of artist and virtual traveler William Wegman at the Westport Arts Center, where an exhibit of Wegman’s work opens Friday evening.
Wegman, a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and the University of Illinois, takes found images, such as postcards, and expands upon them to create works of art. The exhibit “William Wegman: The Traveler” features a mix of postcard paintings, drawings, Polaroids and video that best illustrates this technique.
“I’ve admired William Wegman’s work for years. It is witty, humorous, skillful and endearing,” Helen Klisser During, director of visual arts and exhibit curator, said in a statement. “I thought the Westport Arts Center would be a marvelous platform to exhibit Wegman’s postcard paintings. In these paintings he skillfully and playfully engages his audience on a virtual traveling adventure of his mind. Now we can travel with him.”
The exhibit includes works that date back to the 1980s, as well as new paintings on display for the first time.
An opening reception featuring food and drink will be held Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wegman will be in attendance, signing copies of his books. The reception is free and open to all.
The exhibit will run through March 24.
