(UPDATED) WESTPORT, Conn. Take the family to the Sherwood Island Nature Center to meet and learn about exotic animals, catch a performance by the acclaimed Harlem String Quartet or enjoy a free concert at the Levitt Pavilion this weekend. Heres a look at some of the events planned in Westport through Sunday.
Friday, Aug. 10
The 7 p.m. outdoor screening of "The Bee Movie" at Earthplace is being postponed until Sept. 7 due to the forecast and renovations inside the Earthplace museum.
River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Feel like youre at a Louisiana dance party as River City Slim & The Zydeco Hogs bring the sounds of the bayous to the Levitt Pavilion. The band combines the traditional sounds of the button accordion and washboard with a syncopated beat. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
Live Music Fridays: 9 p.m. Enjoy live music and good eats at Oaxaca Kitchen every Friday night this month. This Friday, the Mojomatics take the stage. No cover. Oaxaca Kitchen, 376 Post Road E.
Saturday, Aug. 11
Exotic Animals: 6 p.m. Come face to face with exotic animals such as a monkey-tailed skink from the Solomon Islands, an Arizona mountain king snake, Spectacled owl or an African bullfrog at the Sherwood Island Nature Center during this educational and entertaining show by Animal Embassy. Children will also learn how to interpret and mimic the sounds animals make to communicate. Free. Sherwood Island Nature Center, Sherwood Island State Park.
Judah Tribe Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Dont miss reggae music at the Levitt Pavilion as Judah Tribe, whose music has been compared to Steel Pulse, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley, takes the stage. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
Sunday, Aug. 12
Explore Your Senses: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Test your senses with optical illusions and sound experiments at the Sherwood Island Nature Center. Taste can taste seaweed, find out how colors affect you and make crafts to take home. Free. Sherwood Island Nature Center, Sherwood Island State Park.
Harlem String Quartet: 3 p.m. The Westport Arts Center is kicking off its 2012-13 chamber music series with a performance by Harlem String Quartet, an acclaimed young ensemble that reflects the African-American and Hispanic culture of its home neighborhood. The concert will focus on music by Walter Piston, Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington, Chick Corea and Maurice Ravel. Tickets are $10 and $25, and are available online. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.
Terry Eldh Concert: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Westports own Terry Eldh, a singer and Broadway veteran, will perform a variety of show tunes at the Levitt Pavilion. Eldh performed as Carlotta in the Broadway company of "Phantom of the Opera" and has been invited to sing the role of Musetta in "La Boheme, Micaela in "Carmen" and Violetta in "La Traviata. Free.
