What’s Happening In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – Entertainment heats up this weekend in Westport with the Staples Players Summer Theatre production of “Willy Wonka,” three free concerts at the Levitt Pavilion and the ongoing production of “Tartuffe” at the Westport Country Playhouse. Here’s a look at some of the events planned through Sunday.

Friday, July 27

Photo Booth at the Library: 4 to 6 p.m. Stop by the Westport Library with friends or family and say "cheese." A photo booth will be set up in the Great Hall and will be open to all. All photo booth visitors will receive copies of their photos. The library may, with permission, use photos in a newsletter, on the library website or in an annual report. Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road.

"Willy Wonka: " 7 p.m. Catch the opening night performance of the Staples Players Summer Theatre production of Roald Dahl’s classic “Willy Wonka.” The cast is made up of high school and college students from Westport, Weston, Fairfield and Trumbull. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults, and can be purchased online at Staplesplayers.com . Tickets will also be available at the door 30 minutes before the show. Staples High School, 70 North Ave. Other performances are at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Carousel Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Indie/electronic band Carousel is bringing its upbeat tunes to the Levitt Pavilion. The band began producing and playing music together in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.

Saturday, July 28

Nature Discoveries: 2:30 p.m. Take the family to Earthplace and discover something new about nature. Meet an Earthplace Animal Ambassador up close and personal, listen to a story, make a craft or take a guided walk along a trail. Included with regular admission: Free for members, $5 to $7 for nonmembers. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

“Tartuffe:” 8 p.m.  Don't miss the Westport Country Playhouse production of Molière’s comedy “Tartuffe,” featuring three-time Tony Award nominee Marc Kudisch. Doug Wahlberg Band: 8 to 9:30 p.m. The classic guitar rock and roll sounds of the Doug Wahlberg Band are taking the stage at the Levitt Pavilion. The band has opened for classic acts such as The Ramones, David Johanson, Cheap Trick and most recently for John Hammond and Mountain. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.

Sunday, July 29

Dave Samuels & The Caribbean Jazz Project: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dance to the sounds of the Caribbean as Latin Grammy Award winner Dave Samuels and his group The Caribbean Jazz Project  perform. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
