What's Happening In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – The 39th annual Fine Arts Festival will take over Parker-Harding Plaza Saturday and Sunday, and the Westport Library’s annual “gigantic” summer book sale kicks off Saturday. Here’s a sneak peak at some of the events planned through Sunday.

Friday, July 20

ArtCafe: 10 to 11 a.m. Meet other art enthusiasts and learn about exhibitions in the area. Guests use “The New York Times” Friday Arts Section as a springboard to discuss the latest exhibitions and events in the art world. Coffee and muffins will be served. Free. "Little Shop of Horrors:" 7:30 p.m. The Westport Summer Teen Theater Camp is staging the musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors” at Bedford Middle School. The show is child-friendly. Other performances are scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. After the Saturday matinee, audience members can have their picture taken inside the mouth of the carnivorous plant. Tickets are $10. Bedford Middle School, 88 North Ave.

Carbon Leaf Concert: 8 to 9:30 pm. Catch a free concert by Carbon Leaf, a five-piece indie rock band from Richmond, Va. The band is known for its alternative-country, Celtic and folk-infused indie rock. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road. (Due to rain, this concert has been moved to the auditorium at Saugatuck Elementary School, 170 Riverside Ave.)

Saturday, July 21

Library Book Sale: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Browse through thousands of books, videos, DVDs, audio books, CDs and more at the annual Friends of the Westport Library summer book sale. The sale is so huge, it takes place both inside the library’s McManus Room and under circus-like tents on Jesup Green. The sale continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and into next week. Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road.

Westport Fine Arts Festival: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Don’t miss the Westport Downtown Merchants Association’s 39th annual Fine Arts Festival. Original works from 140 artists will be exhibited downtown along the Saugatuck River. The festival also includes food and a variety of entertainment, such as street performers, live music, and face painting and magicians for children. The Westport Arts Center will also have a children’s activity tent. The festival continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. Parker-Harding Plaza, behind Main Street.

Mill River Band: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Connecticut’s own Mill River Band is performing at the Levitt Pavilion. The band’s music is described as a blend of acoustic rock and country blues. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.

Sunday, July 22

“Tartuffe:” 3 p.m.  Don't miss the Westport Country Playhouse production of Molière’s comedy, “Tartuffe,” featuring three-time Tony Award-nominee Marc Kudisch. Le Vent du Nord Concert: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Straight from Quebec comes Le Vent du Nord, a folk band who’s sound has been described by the L.A. Times as “soulful music (a close cousin to Celtic music) with New Orleans polyphony and R&B.” Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
