What’s Happening In Westport This Week

WESTPORT, Conn. – Stop by the Levitt Pavilion in Westport this week for a free wine tasting, Irish dance lesson and a children’s concert by the “Sheryl Crow for kids.” Also this week, the Board of Education kicks off its 2012-13 meetings. Monday, Aug. 13

TeenFlix: 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. See the PG comedy “Airplane!” at the Levitt Pavilion. After an airplane crew takes ill, the only person capable of landing the plane is an ex-pilot who’s afraid to fly. The evening will open with an award-winning short film showed at the Westport Youth Film Festival. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road. Rain location is Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road. 

Board of Education: 7:30 p.m. The Board of Education is holding its first meeting of the 2012-13 school year in the cafeteria at Staples High School. Read the agenda online. 70 North Ave.

Tuesday, Aug. 14

Irish Dance Lesson: 7:15 p.m. Learn the basics of traditional Irish dance as part of the RiverSwing Series. The half-hour dance lesson will be taught by professionals, on a hard-surfaced dance floor. After the lesson, enjoy an Irish folk music concert by the Brock McGuire Band. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Dance lesson is free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.

Brock McGuire Band Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. The Brock McGuire Band, an Irish folk group from County Clare, Ireland, is taking the stage. The band consists of button accordionist and melodeonist Paul Brock and fiddler Manus McGuire, two of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians. They are joined by Dublin-based Garry O’Meara, a banjo, mandolin player and vocalist, and Denis Carey, an acclaimed pianist, composer and arranger from Newport, County Tipperary. Free. Wednesday, Aug. 15

Bari Koral Family Rock Band: 7 to 8:15 p.m. Treat the kids to a concert by Bari Koral, who the New York Post calls the "Sheryl Crow for kids.” The band’s Beatles-inspired pop sound is sure to please everyone. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.

Thursday, Aug. 16

Westport Farmers Market: 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. It’s all about supporting the local economy at the Westport Farmers Market. You can find fresh produce, artisan meats and cheeses, freshly baked goods, organic foods, clothing and more. Free admission. Imperial Avenue parking lot.

Wine Tasting: 7:15 p.m. Enjoy a free preconcert wine tasting sponsored by Purple Feet Wines. Taste new seasonal favorites curated by Nicholas Rossi. Photo identification required. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.

Leslie Orofino Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Join actress/singer Leslie Orofino for her newest show "Affairs of the Heart,” a love-filled program infused with jazz, rock, ballads and comedy. Orofino has performed at sold out shows across the country for the past 20 years, including New York City's legendary Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room to Napa Valley's Silverado Country Club. Free.
