What To Do In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – Spend the weekend picking pumpkins with the family or shopping for gifts at the annual Harvest Fair at St. Luke Church in Westport. Friday, Oct. 19

Staples Varsity Football vs. Trumbull: 7 p.m. The Wreckers host Trumbull High School during this special breast cancer awareness game. Pink logo merchandise will be on sale to benefit the nonprofit Pink Aid. Staples Stadium, 70 North Ave.

“Casper the Friendly Ghost:” 7 p.m. Bring the kids to Earthplace to see the family-friendly movie “Casper the Friendly Ghost” outside in the sanctuary on a 9-by-12 foot screen. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket. Concessions will be available. In case of rain, the movie will be shown in the auditorium. $20/member family; $25/non-member family. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

“A Raisin in the Sun:” 8 p.m. See the Westport Country Playhouse production of “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry. Directed by Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad, the play tells the story of a black family in 1950s Southside Chicago and their quest for a piece of the American Dream. Runs through Nov. 3. Tickets are $25-$50. Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

Saturday, Oct. 20

St. Luke Harvest Fair: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by the annual Harvest Fair at St. Luke Parish with the family and pick pumpkins from a pumpkin patch. The fair will also feature dozens of craft vendors selling a variety of items such as jewelry, gift baskets, baked goods and more. Admission is free and all proceeds will benefit charity. Fair continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Road N.

Critter Encounters: 2:30 p.m. Meet some of the Earthplace animals, take a trail walk to see what critters you encounter or make a craft to bring home. Free to members; $7 for adults and children over 12, and $5 for seniors and kids children under 12.

Sunday, Oct. 21

Democratic Brunch: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Westport Democratic Town Committee is hosting a brunch with Gov. Dannel Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, Attorney General George Jepson and Comptroller Kevin Lembo at Tarry Lodge. Reservations required . $60 per person. Tarry Lodge, 30 Charles St.

Piano Concert: 3 p.m. Enjoy piano by Andrew Russo and Westport's own Frederic Chiu. In honor of the 150th anniversary of Claude Debussy’s birth, the concert will focus on Debussy’s Impressionist music, as well as the music of American composers Philip Glass and Leonard Bernstein. Tickets are $10 for students and $25 for adults. Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.
