What To Do In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – A pancake breakfast at Wakeman Town Farm, a family fiesta at Camp Mahackeno, a new show at the Westport Country Playhouse and a “super” workshop at the Westport Arts Center are some of the events happening in Westport this weekend. Friday, Oct. 12

Girls' Night Out: 6 to 9 p.m. Get together with other ladies in the community for an evening of entertainment, food, wine, fashion, makeovers and prizes during "Dressing Up; Westport Style,” presented by the Westport Woman’s Club and Westport Historical Society. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Ave.

“A Raisin in the Sun:” 8 p.m. See the Westport Country Playhouse production of “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry. Directed by Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad, the play tells the story of a black family in 1950s Southside Chicago and their quest for a piece of the American Dream. Runs through Nov. 3 Tickets are $25-$50. Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

Saturday, Oct. 13

Super Saturday: 9 a.m. to noon. Kids combine art and fashion to create imaginative creations using a variety of materials including felted fabric, sequins, be-dazzlers and more. Open to children between ages 5 and 8 from 9 to 10:15 a.m., and kids from 9 to 12 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Cost is $35 or $30 for Westport Arts Center members. Youth Fun Night: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Westport Weston Family Night will be transformed into a kids-only hangout. Activities will include swimming, open gym, basketball and other games, inflatables and a “make-your-own-sundae” station. Open to all local children from fourth to seventh-grade. Cost is $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Westport Weston Family Y, 59 Post Road E.

Sunday, Oct. 14

Pancake Breakfast: 9 a.m. to noon. Enjoy a pancake breakfast with your family and friends in the community at Wakeman Town Farm. The breakfast will include pancakes with maple syrup, bacon and all the fixings, plus juice and coffee. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for kids. Children 3 and under are free. Wakeman Town Farm, 134 Cross Highway.

Fall Family Fiesta: 1 to 4 p.m. Spend the afternoon with the family decorating pumpkins, face painting, games, wall climbing, zip lining and more at the Westport Weston Family Y’s 32-acre Mahackeno campus. Free. Camp Mahackeno, Sunny Lane.

Westport GOP Oktoberfest: 3 to 6 p.m. The Westport Republican Town Committee is hosting a Republican candidate meet and greet during an Oktoberfest-themed event featuring live music, authentic German food and German beer on tap. U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon, congressional candidate Steve Obsitnik, state Sen.Toni Boucher, state representative candidate Stephen Rubin and state Rep. Gail Lavielle are expected to attend. $40. Westport Women’s Club, 44 Imperial Ave.

A Conversation with Phylicia Rashad: 5:45 p.m. Sit in on a conversation with Phylicia Rashad, director of the Westport Country Playhouse production of “A Raisin in the Sun,” following the 3 p.m. performance of the show. Free. Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court.

Genesis Jazzed: 7 p.m. Don't miss "The Genesis Project," an hour long vocal and instrumental jazz interpretation of the story of creation by Connecticut composer Mark Berman. A donation of $10 is suggested. The Conservative Synagogue, 30 Hillspoint Road.
