What To Do In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – Take a kayak tour out to Chimon Island, make food art with the kids at the Westport Arts Center or catch one of the final performances of the comedy “Laughter on the 23rd Floor” this weekend. To see more event listings, visit our Events page.

Friday, Sept. 28

Staples Varsity Football: 7 p.m. Cheer on the Wreckers as they take on Norwalk’s Brien McMahon in the third home game of the season. Staples Stadium, 70 North Ave.

“Laughter on the 23rd Floor:” 8 p.m. This is the last weekend to see the Westport Community Theatre production of the Neil Simon comedy "Laughter on the 23rd Floor.” Directed by Lester Colodny, the show is set in 1953 and follows a team of social misfits as they write a weekly variety program. The characters are based on people Simon worked with, such as Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks and Sid Caesar. Other performances this weekend are 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.  Tickets are $18-$20 and are available online or by calling the box office at 203-226-1983. Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave.

Red Planet Concert: 9 p.m. Eat, drink and enjoy a live concert by Red Planet, a Grateful Dead Tribute band, at Oaxaca Kitchen. No cover. Oaxaca Kitchen, 376 Post Road E.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Museum Day: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy free admission into Earthplace as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s annual Museum Day Live event. You must have an official “Museum Day Live” ticket for free entry. Tickets available online . One ticket per household, for two people. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

Critter Encounters: 2:30 p.m. Meet some of the Earthplace animals, take a trail walk to see what critters you encounter or make a craft to bring home. Free to members; $5 to 7 non-members. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

Sunday, Sept. 30

Kayak Tour: 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Take a kayak out to Chimon Island, one mile off the coast of Norwalk. The tour is hosted by the Westport Historical Society. For more information, visit the WHS website . Cost is $20, or $18 for WHS members. Kayakers to meet at the Small Boat Shop at Rex Marina, 144 Water St., South Norwalk.

WACky Family Day: 1 to 3 p.m. Kids and their parents can enjoy an afternoon of activities and art workshops inspired by food. Use a variety of materials to build large-scale burgers, construct 3-dimensional art farm and more. $10 per child. Adults and kids 2 and under are free. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.

Piano Concert: 3 p.m. Pianist Yue Chu, first prize winner of Connecticut Alliance for Music’s 2011 Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition, will perform in a special concert at the Pequot Library. Free. 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.
