Board of Education: 7:30 p.m. The board will continue its discussion of the superintendent's proposed budget. See full agenda online. Staples High School, cafeteria B, 70 North Ave. 

Discussion on Prohibition (WestportREADS): 7:30 p.m. In conjunction with the WestportREADS selection of "The Great Gatsby," author Eric Burns will talk about drinking as the nation's first pastime and how it shaped American politics and culture from the earliest colonial days. Tuesday, Jan. 15

'The Roaring Twenties' (WestportREADS): 2 p.m. One of the premier gangster movies, "The Roaring Twenties," starring Jimmy Cagney, echoes the novel "The Great Gatsby." Jimmy Cagney, back from WWI, has little money and encounters difficulty finding a job, so he becomes a bootlegger. Free. Westport Library, McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road.

Thursday, Jan. 17

Wine, Women and Wisdom: 5:30 p.m. *This event has been postponed* Don't miss an evening of wine and wisdom from notable speakers such as author Lee Woodruff and Dr. Emre Seli of the Yale Fertility Center and Reproductive Endocrinology, who will speak on delaying pregnancy and other women's health issues. Tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Senior tickets are $40. Register online. A portion of the proceeds will support the Bob Woodruff Foundation and Stand for the Troops.
