First Night Westport: 4 to 10:30 p.m. Ring in the New Year with the whole family throughout downtown Westport during First Night, a community-wide New Year's Eve celebration. Highlights include horse-drawn carriage rides starting at 4 p.m.; glow-in-the-dark puppet shows at 4 and 5 p.m.; ice sculpture demonstrations from 5 to 8 p.m. outside of Moja Cafe; roller skating shows at 8 and 9:30 p.m. and a laser light show beginning at 10:30 p.m. Admission buttons are $15 and are available online . Marc Chagall Paintings: 10:30 a.m. Kids can create painting inspired by the art of Russian artist Marc Chagall at Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk. Free with museum admission. Stepping Stones Museum, Mathews Park, 303 West Ave., Norwalk.

TalkingTED - Try Something New For 30 Days: 10 a.m. In a pre-recorded talk, Matt Cutts, an engineer at Google, will encourage audience members to try new things for 30 days or try to change bad habits in that amount of time.
