WESTPORT, Conn. – Laugh until it hurts during a comedy show to benefit Wesptort’s CLASP Homes, participate in a lunchtime discussion about climate change and sit in on an environmental debate between Westport’s state representative candidates this week. Monday, Oct. 8

Columbus Day: In observance of Columbus Day, Westport Public Schools, Town Hall and the Westport Public Library are closed.

Flu Shot Clinic: 8 to 11 a.m. Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut will offer flu shots at the Westport Weston Family Y. The cost of the shot is covered by the following insurances: Medicare, Anthem Blue Cross of CT, Aetna and ConnectiCare. Cost is $30 with no insurance. Westport Weston Family Y, 59 Post Road E.

Columbus Halloween Workshop: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children ages 5 to 10 can make a variety of Halloween-themed crafts. Snacks provided. Tickets are $50 for WHS members and $60 for nonmembers. Registration required by calling 203-222-1424. Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place.

Vacation Day Programs: 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Take the kids to Earthplace at 10 a.m. for story time or 2:30 p.m. for activity time. Programs are included with cost of admission: free for members, $5 to $7 for nonmembers. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

Tuesday, Oct. 9

Candidate Environmental Forum: 7:30 p.m. Hear what Westport’s state representative candidates have to say about environmental issues. The debate will be between state Rep. Jonathan Steinberg, D-136th District, and his Republican challenger Stephen Rubin; and state Rep. Gail Lavielle, R-143rd District, and her opponent, Democrat Ted Hofstatter. Free. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

Wednesday, Oct. 10

Lunch Café: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Enjoy a free catered lunch and a discussion on climate change out on the deck as part of the Lunch Cafe fall series. Free. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.

Comedy Show: 7 p.m. In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Westport’s CLASP Homes, a nonprofit that serves adults with autism and related developmental disabilities, is hosting a comedy show starring comedians Jon Fisch and Moody McCarthy. There will be free hors d’ oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $45 or $55 and can be purchased online . Fairfield Theatre Company, StageOne, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield.

Thursday, Oct. 11

Westport Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s all about supporting the local economy at the Westport Farmers Market. You can find fresh produce, artisan meats and cheeses, freshly baked goods, organic foods, clothing and more. Free admission. Imperial Avenue parking lot.
