Friday, July 12

Westport DMA Sidewalk Sale: What kind of bargains will you find during the annual Westport Downtown Merchants Association Sidewalk Sale? Shops along Main Street and the surrounding Post Road are participating in the event. Sale continues Saturday and Sunday. Downtown Westport (times vary by store.)

Dancing through the Decades Dances from the Nifty 50s: 3 to 4 p.m. Kids can learn some of the coolest dances from the 1950s. Professional dancer Debra MacDonald will teach participants dances such the Hully Gully, the Stroll and the Bunny Hop. For grades K and up. Registration required . Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton.

"25th Annual Putnam Valley Spelling Bee:" 7:30 p.m. Current and former Staples High School students are staging and directing this one-act musical comedy to benefit the Staples High School Best Buddies Club. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door 30 minutes before the show, or online . Ticket sales and proceeds will be donated to the club, which promotes friendships with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Show continues Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Toquet Hall, 58 Post Road E., Westport. (NOTE: This show contains mature content and some strong language.)

Wakeman Town Farm Family Fun Day: Noon to 4 p.m. Treat the family to an afternoon of fun featuring a petting zoo, farmyard games, a pie-eating contest, ice cream, face painting and "Farm Gal Mud Wrestling" featuring Farah Masani of Farah's Farm in Wilton, Patti Popp of Sport Hill Farm in Easton and Liz Beller of Wakeman Town Farm. Food will be available for purchase from Skinny Pines Pizza Truck. Suggested donation is $5 for kids and $10 for adults. Wakeman Town Farm, 134 Cross Highway, Westport.

"Prick Up Your Ears:" 4 p.m. In advance of its production of Joe Orton’s farce “Loot,” Westport Country Playhouse is showing this 1987 film adaptation of Orton’s biography, starring Gary Oldman, Alfred Molina and Vanessa Redgrave, and directed by Stephen Frears. David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director and director of “Loot,” will introduce the film. An informal discussion will follow the screening. Free popcorn and beverages will be available.
