What’s Happening In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Levitt Pavilion is bringing the South to Westport this weekend with a free country dance lesson and performance by a Southern rock tribute band. Also this weekend, check out a local artist’s art show or catch the final performances of “Tartuffe” at the Westport Country Playhouse. Here’s a look at some of the events planned through Sunday.

Friday, Aug. 3

Seeing Landscapes: 6 p.m. Photographer Stacy Bass, Moffly Media Creative Director Amy Vischio and Helen Klisser During, director of Visual Arts at the Westport Arts Center, will discuss the use of landscapes as art. Peter Van Heerden, executive director of the arts center, will moderate the discussion. Bass will be also be signing copies of her first book, "In the Garden." Cost is $15 or $10 for Westport Arts Center members. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.

Country Dance Lesson & Concert: 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. Grab a partner and head to the Levitt Pavilion for a free country dance lesson at 7:15 p.m., then stay and enjoy the sounds of Gunsmoke, a Southern rock tribute band at 8. Gunsmoke hails from the Jersey Shore and plays music by Southern greats such as The Allman Brothers, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band, Molly Hatchet, The Outlaws, ZZ Top and others. “Tartuffe:” 8 p.m. Catch the Westport Country Playhouse production of Molière’s comedy “Tartuffe” before it’s gone. The show features three-time Tony Award nominee Marc Kudisch. Tickets start at $40. Saturday, Aug. 4

Compo Mill Art Show: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Support Westport resident Clark Hanford and local artists during his third-annual outdoor art show. The art show will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free. 31 Old Mill Road.  

Buskin & Batteau Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Relax and enjoy the soulful acoustic sound of Buskin & Batteau at the Levitt Pavilion. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road

Sunday, Aug. 5

Compo Beach Volleyball Meetup: 8 a.m. Calling all volleyball lovers: Join a group of volleyball enthusiast for some games at Compo Beach. For more information or to RSVP, visit the event page online.

Incendio Performance: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Incendio, an L.A.-based Latin Guitar World Fusion group, is bringing its energetic music to the Levitt Pavilion. The group has seven CDs and plays an average of about 150 shows a year. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
