WESTPORT, Conn. – Enjoy a day of food and family-oriented activities at Wakeman Town Farm, take in a concert at the Levitt Pavilion or catch a one-act play at the Westport Community Theatre this weekend. Here’s a peak at some of the events planned through Sunday.
Friday, July 13
Art Café Happy Hour: 6 to 7 p.m. Meet new and like-minded people at the Westport Arts Center once a month during this art-themed happy hour. Bringing your own beverage is encouraged. Free. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.
Hank & Cupcakes Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Hank & Cupcakes, a Brooklyn-based indie pop duo, is bringing its brand of experimental pop/funk to the Levitt Pavilion as part of its “Naked” album release tour. Opening act is the Emily Mure Trio. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road, behind the library.
One-Act Play Festival: 8 p.m. The Westport Community Theatre's 5th annual summer one-act play festival, "Summer 2012: XII," begins. Audience members will get an opportunity to vote for the winning one-act play that will appear at the Stratford Festival next month. The festival continues Saturday at 8 p.m. Free. Westport Community Theatre, 110 Myrtle Ave.
Saturday, July 14
Family Fun Day: Noon to 4 p.m. Bring the family to Wakeman Town Farm for an afternoon of down-home food and fun. Attractions include a variety of food and ice cream trucks, pony rides, face painting, a petting zoo, a pie-eating contest, kids’ yoga and balloon toss. Visitors will also tour the farm’s gardens and meet the farmers. Donations of $10 for adults and $5 for kids are suggested. Proceeds support farm programs and operations. Wakeman Town Farm, 134 Cross Highway.
Long Island Sound Marine Animals: 2:30 p.m. Learn about local aquatic animals and touch some of the many critters that inhabit Long Island Sound at Earthplace. Included with regular admission: Free for members; $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under 12. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.
Delta Rae Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Catch Delta Rae, a four-person alternative-pop Americana rock band, at the Levitt Pavilion. The band, described as Mumford & Sons meets Fleetwood Mac, has headlined at sold-out show on both coasts. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road, behind the library.
Lost In The Flood: 8:30 p.m. Help support the Westport Firefighters Benevolent Fund while rocking to some of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's greatest hits. Lost In The Flood, a tribute band, is hosting it's 8th annual benefit concert at the rooftop garden at Bobby Q's. $10. Bobby Q's, 42 Main St.
Sunday, July 15
Point-to-Point Swim: 9:30 a.m. The Westport Weston Family Y is hosting its 34th annual Point-to-Point swim at Compo Beach. Starting at the cannons, participants swim around buoys, ending with a sprint across the sand to the finish line, covering a distance of 1 mile. The event is considered one of Westport's longest-running annual sports events. Registration and check-in begin at 8 p.m. Compo Beach.
Steve D'Agostino Concert/Ballroom Dance Lesson: 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy a night of ballroom dancing and music as Steve D’Agostino and his band perform timeless music by greats such as Cole Porter, Ira Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn. A pre-concert ballroom dance lesson will begin at 6:15 p.m. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road, behind the library.
