WESTPORT, Conn. – Summer may be winding down, but the Levitt Pavilion is still going strong this week with an eclectic mix of performances on tap. Also this week, the Westport Arts Center is hosting two summer camp programs and its final farm-to-table lunch of the summer. Here’s a look at some of the events planned this week. Monday, Aug. 20
Foundations of Drawing and Painting Camp: 9:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Does your 8- to 12-year-old love to draw or paint? If so, your child can enhance her or his artistic skills at the Westport Arts Center. Students will draw from life and their imaginations, and will use a variety of media including acrylic paint, pastels and watercolor. The camp runs every day through Friday. Cost is $295, or $275 for Westport Arts Center members. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.
Lego Summer Camp: 2 to 4 p.m. Children ages 6 to 10 can make art with Legos at the Westport Arts Center. While exploring a wide range of artist and architects, students will work independently and in groups on projects from building pirate ships to futuristic cities. The camp runs every day through Friday. Cost is $195 or $180 for Westport Arts Center members. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.
TeenFlix: 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. See the PG rated comedy “The Sandlot” at the Levitt Pavilion. The movie is about a group of neighborhood kids who share a love of baseball and hilarious adventures. The evening will open with an award-winning short film showed at the Westport Youth Film Festival. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road. Rain location is Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road.
Tuesday, Aug. 21
Study Skills Program: Noon to 2:30 p.m. Successful Study Skills 4 Students is hosting a three-day back-to-school study workshops at Toquet Hall for middle school students. The workshops, led by accredited teachers, teach students 10 skills essential for successful learning and studying. Class sizes are limited to 15 students each. The sessions will be held Wednesday and Thursday as well. Registration required. Toquet Hall, 58 Post Road E.
Brave Combo Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Two-time Grammy award-winner Brave Combo, a Texas-based quintet, is bringing its world music mix to the Levitt Pavilion. The group plays salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, conjunto, polka, zydeco, classical, cha cha, the blues and more. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
Wednesday, Aug. 22
Summer Café “Lunch-escapes:” 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a farm-to-table-style lunch and listen to a discussion with local food experts at the Westport Arts Center during the final summer café. Dottie Carpenter from Doc’s Organic Maple Syrup will discuss maple farming and provide samples. Lori Cochran-Dougall, director of Westport Farmers’ Market, will close the series by discussing the importance of supporting local vendors and how to make shopping local fun. Bring your own lunch and listen to the discussion for free or enjoy a catered lunch for $15. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.
Debbie & Friends Kids Concert: 7 to 8:15 p.m. Debbie & Friends, the 2011 Grammy award-winner for best children’s album, will perform at the Levitt Pavilion. The band plays a variety of styles, including pop, country, rock and reggae. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
Thursday, Aug. 23
Westport Farmers Market: 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. It’s all about supporting the local economy at the Westport Farmers Market. You can find fresh produce, artisan meats and cheeses, freshly baked goods, organic foods, clothing and more. Free admission. Imperial Avenue parking lot.
Dance Lesson: 7:15 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes to the Levitt Pavilion and learn how to belly dance. The free lesson will be led by professionals. Afterward, stay for the 8 p.m. Hodust concert. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
Hodust Concert: 8 to 9:30 p.m. Dance to an eclectic blend of music at the Levitt Pavilion during the Hodust concert. Hodust blends the sounds of Sufi, Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonian and Balkan folk music, with Farsi, Turkish, Arabic, pop and rock. Free. Levitt Pavilion, 40 Jesup Road.
