What To Do In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – Take a tour of solar-powered homes, visit historical places in Saugatuck, bring the family to a carnival or help raise money for charities by participating in one of several fundraisers happening this weekend in and around Westport. Friday, Oct. 5

Chicago Street Photography Exhibit: 6-7:30 p.m. The Westport Arts Center and Westport Country Playhouse are teaming up to present “Art That Tells the Truth: Chicago Street Photography in the 20th Century,” a guided exploration of powerful Chicago street photography. “A Nite at the Drive-In” Fundraiser: 7:30 p.m. See classic movies under the stars while enjoying finger foods, wine and microbrews during “A Nite at the Drive-In.” The event is a fundraiser for ITNCoastalCT, which provides 24/7 door-to-door transportation for seniors and adults with visual impairment. Tickets range from $100 to $400 and can be purchased online. The fundraiser will be at the home of Westporters Jim and Mary Ellen Marpe.

Saturday, Oct. 6

24 Hours of Hope: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Burn calories and raise money to help children with cancer during the third-annual 24 Hours of Hope exercise fundraiser organized by the Westport nonprofit Al’s Angels. The fundraiser continues Sunday during the same hours. Register online. Edge Fitness Clubs in Norwalk (542 Westport Ave.) and Fairfield (500 Kings Highway Cutoff). NOTE: The event takes place from 1-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Fairfield location.

Saugatuck Cup: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Go fishing for a good cause during the fourth annual Saugatuck Cup catch-and-release fishing tournament. The event raises money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation and Memorial Sloan Kettering Pediatric Day Hospital. There will be a post-tournament party starting around 4:30 p.m. at Westport Outfitters/All Seasons Marine Works, 609 Riverside Ave. Cost is $200 for tournament and after-party. Solar Energy Homes Tour: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take a tour of three solar-powered homes in Westport. The homes open for touring are: 8 Promised Road (9 a.m. to noon); 10 Stone Road (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.); and 35 Gorham Ave. (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Free.

Saint Francis Carnival: Noon to 6 p.m. Spend the day in Weston with the family at the second-annual Saint Francis of Assisi carnival. Admission is free; $20 unlimited ride bracelets will be sold. Rain date is Oct. 13. On the grounds of Saint Francis Church, 35 Norfield Road, Weston.

Saugatuck Walking Tour: 5 to 6 p.m. Discover the history behind Westport's Saugatuck neighborhood during a walking tour organized by the Westport Historical Society. More information on the WHS website. Cost is $10, or $8 for WHS members. Tour meets at on the northbound side of the train station, 1 Railroad Place.

Sunday, Oct. 7

“Foodies:” Noon to 4 p.m. Check out “Foodies,” a food-themed exhibit at the Westport Arts Center that features work in all media selected by food industry celebrities with ties to the local community. Exhibit is daily through Nov. 4. Free. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave.

Bingo Fundraiser: 1 p.m. Enjoy a game or two of bingo with friends and play for cash prizes. Card sales begin at 1 p.m. and the game starts at 2 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Westport Woman's Club. Space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 203-227-4240. Westport Woman's Club, 44 Imperial Ave.
