WESTPORT, Conn. – If you’re already thinking ahead to spring, Wakeman Town Farm has opened registration for two of its upcoming planting workshops that will teach you how to grow an organic vegetable garden in your backyard.
The first workshop in the series, scheduled for March 3 from 12:30 to 3 p.m., will cover the basics of planning the garden. Specifically, the workshop will cover garden types and designs, vegetable selection, creating a planting schedule, creating a garden layout and soil basics. This workshop will be led by Wakeman Town Farm steward Mike Aitkenhead.
The second workshop, scheduled for March 9 from 10 a.m. to noon, will focus on starting your own seedlings indoors. This workshop will be led by veteran gardener Annaliese McCay, who will get you started with a tray of seeds to bring home.
Each workshop costs $25 when registering online in advance and $30 the day of the event. However, space is limited to 20 participants, so early online registration is encouraged.
