WESTPORT, Conn. — The Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce's first Dog Festival will be June 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Winslow Park.
It will be a full day of giveaways, competitions, demonstrations and veterinary seminars -- all in conjunction with TAILS — The Alliance in Limiting Strays.
There’ll be a Doggie Fun Zone with its obstacle course and plenty of competitions including the following:
- What’s your dog’s best trick?
- Is she the best tail wagger, the best kisser, the best dressed, the best singer (er, barker)?
- Whose dog looks most like its owner?
- If your dog weighs more than 50 pounds, is he the best lap dog?
There will be food trucks and coffee from the Buzz Truck and eats from JR's Hot Dogs, and desserts from Alene’s Ice Cream and Phil & Tom's Ice Cream.
Stop by to watch trained dogs do their stuff — police dogs, rescue dogs, guide dogs and hunting dogs.
Take the opportunity to register or license dogs, and take in veterinary seminars — about Lyme disease, ticks, and allergies, proper nutrition and feeding, and how best to take care of older dogs.
There is an entry fee of $10 per person or $25 for a family of four. Park at the Playhouse.
The Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce is working with TAILS — The Alliance in Limiting Strays, a Westport-based nonprofit dedicated to spaying/neutering to stop the flow of unwanted dogs, cats and other animals to shelters and end the killing of these animals. TAILS also provides financial support to humane organizations and individuals pursuing the same goal. For more information, click here .
